The project is located at a unique site on the northern shore of Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong, at the western end. The triangular site, backed by mountains and surrounded by the sea on three sides, features a design resembling a modern ship setting sail.
The building facade is covered with earth-colored GRC panels, all using Aalborg white cement. The consistent performance and high purity of white cement makes it ideal for producing high quality GRC components with stable, uniform, and controllable color.
Through the close collaboration between Style Art with the Architectural Design and Research Institute of South China University of Technology on materials development, color confirmation, large panel simulations, 1:1 scale models, and on-site visual effect confirmation. After multiple communications and confirmations with Academician He Jingtang and Hong Kong Garrison leaders, the final samples were selected.
The GRC façade showcases rich architectural details, with deep horizontal stripes at the bottom, shallow ones at the top, and double-curved corners. Style Art is responsible for the detailed design, production, and transportation, covering about 10,000 square meters. The project began in March 2019, with all products delivered by September 2020.
The structural design reflects traditional large-scale buildings, using an upward cantilevered section within the limited coastal site. The upper part extends diagonally, creating the image of a large eave, and most exhibition hall functions are elevated to the second floor to create more open ground space.
